My first memory of rocking chairs is when I used to travel down to my Grandparents house for a visit. We would sit in the living room, rock back and forth and catch up on what had been happening in our lives since that last time were together. It was a relaxing, special time that I will always remember. We weren`t worried about schedules, places to be, or what chores needed to be done. We just took a few minutes to step away from the stress of everything and enjoy our time together. Grandma had her rocking chair, and Grandpa has his. They also had one for the grandkids and my brothers and I always fought over who got to sit in it. It was your classic style chair for rocking just like the adult ones, only smaller. We felt just like grown-ups, rocking right along with them. The rocking motion was rhythmic and soothing, seeming to have a calming effect on any child who sat in it.

Although many people own a rocking chair, not everyone owns a rocking chair to sway. Many times people will have a rocking chair in the room to give it a homier feel. It can also be used as part of the décor because many people use the rocking chair in the designs to get the country look. Rather it`s for show or to rock, you can bet a throw will be on the chair. Rocking chair`s are very beautiful and usually handcrafted wood. To give it a more subtle look sometimes a throw will be laid on the back of the rocking chair.

It wasn`t until we were expecting our first little one that I thought about rocking chairs again. Sure I had sat in many a chair since I was a child, but never thought about buying one for our household. Having a newborn means sleepless nights and tired Mommies and Daddies. Anything you can do to help soothe that new little baby and get him to sleep is a blessing. Having a chair that helped us rock our child to sleep during that time made our job so much easier. I can remember spending hours upon hours rocking my little one to sleep, only to be back in the same chair an hour or two later. This time was special and I look back on that time like it was yesterday. I`m glad I had that one-on-one time to bond with my baby and just watch him fall asleep with the rocking motion. Even today, as my kids are older, they still will crawl up into my lap for a snuggle in our favorite chair. They never tire of the way it makes them feel, and this chair is always a favorite place for story time before bed.

Knowing all of that, it could take months or even a year to make the perfect rocking chair. Their balance of difficulty layouts and simplistic designs is what makes the rocking chair a classic. There is so much hard work that much goes into one and yet it can look like it didn`t take much to even build it. Many people will add their own twist on their rocking chair by carving designs in the wood before putting it all together. The rocking chair is perfect for anyone from six months to 60 years old; everyone loves a rocking chair and they look good too.
