Boxer Amir Khan has withdrawn his accusation that fellow sportsman Anthony Joshua is having an affair with his wife.
Last Friday (04Aug17), former lightweight champion Khan announced his separation from wife of four years Faryal Makhdoom on Twitter, alleging to his 2.1 million followers that the pretty American had cheated on him with Olympian Joshua.
Joshua, who is the current world heavyweight champion, denied the affair with a funny meme of Shaggy’s It Wasn’t Me, and Khan has now taken back the accusation, though failed to properly say sorry.
“@anthonyfjoshua glad all is cleared up and all lies. I got angry like any man would. No truth to it. Good to know. All the best,” he posted.
Joshua shared the message, writing: “Apology accepted.”
While the matter appears to have been resolved between the former associates, sources say 27-year-old Joshua isn’t impressed with the apology.
“AJ just wants the whole thing to be over and done with, it’s just ridiculous. AJ’s camp are far from happy with the apology but we just want to draw a line under it now,” an insider told Mirror Online.
“AJ did send a legal letter and then we get this apology so we would like to think it helped.”
Joshua’s team had reportedly threatened 30-year-old Khan with legal action after his angry outburst on social media, so Khan promised to say sorry.
In actual fact it was his estranged wife that first broke with an apology, telling her followers on Thursday that the screenshots sent to Khan of her alleged affair were fake and apologising for all the “nonsense”.
“Anthony’s team are furious at what they consider to be a publicity stunt. They don’t want to be dragged into the Khans’ business,” an insider told The Sun.
“Anthony’s legal team got in touch as soon as it happened and Amir immediately promised to apologise. But it seems he has got his wife to do it – which is disappointing.”
