There were a lot of people on the stage at Marvel‘s D23 Expo presentation in California on Saturday, and fittingly so given that it was showing the trailer for its biggest crossover story yet, Avengers: Infinity War.

Disney

If you thought that Civil War had a cast of thousands, then get prepared: Infinity War brings in characters from Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as standalone names such as Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, and Black Panther, who appeared in Civil War, and has his own standalone film being released next year.

“Almost every single superhero, we have ever introduced, is going to be in the film,” said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. “This is by far the biggest production in the history of Marvel Studios.”

Josh Brolin who plays arch-villain Thanos was there to keep everyone in line, and wow – you needed a very big line to actually get everyone on stage.

So, who did we see? Marvel fans will immediately recognize Sebastian Stan, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Josh Brolin, and Chris Hemsworth, producer Kevin Feige, and actors Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, and Anthony Mackie.

Avengers: Infinity War opens in cinemas on May 4 2018. Spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is what the whole 10 years of Marvel Studios films has been building towards, with the studio calling it “the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time”. The Avengers and their superhero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

The footage we saw showed all the disparate groups coming together: Thor quite literally bumps into the Guardians’ space ship; and Spider-Man’s spidey sense starts tingling moments before he sees a spaceship. There’s the highly-anticipated return of Hulk, of course, and a lot of incredibly nervous looking superheroes, and understandably so because Thanos is not taking any prisoners – and instead, will probably kill everyone.

Who will survive?
