The Queen has spoken. Prince Charles has been waiting to take the throne for years, but it seems Queen Elizabeth II has decided that Prince William should be king before his father. Sources reveal exclusively to Life & Style that the monarch’s historic decision is causing a rift between William and Charles.
“Things have been a bit strained between William and his father since the Queen’s decision,” an insider said. “But they are slowly getting used to it.” And William seems up for the challenge. In 2016, the 35-year-old royal made it clear he would follow his grandmother’s wishes.

“When the queen decides she’s going to hand down more responsibilities, I’ll be the first person to accept them,” he told the BBC. For her part, Queen Elizabeth believes her grandson is ready and is already putting William and wife Kate Middleton through training.
“She has spent 65 years making sure that the House of Windsor survives, and she sees William and Kate as having the energy and star quality to do the job in a modern world,” the source explained. “Queen Elizabeth will always do what is best for the long-term health of the monarchy.”
That means kicking Prince Charles and his controversial wife Camilla Parker Bowles to the curb. “It’s hard on Charles,” royal author Duncan Larcombe told Life & Style. “He has been unlucky as the man with the longest wait for a job ever.”
Recently, William quit his job as an air ambulance pilot to become a full-time working royal, while raising his kids, George, 4, and Charlotte, 2. “Following on from my time in the military, I have had experiences in this job I will carry with me for the rest of my life, and that will add a valuable perspective to my Royal work for decades to come,” he said in a statement. “My admiration for our country’s medical and emergency services community could not be any stronger.”
