Samuel L. Jackson loves signature curse word’s ‘all-encompassing’ nature
Samuel L. Jackson has opened up about why he loves using his signature curse word so much, citing it’s “all-encompassing” nature.
The 68-year-old actor is known for dropping the phrase “motherf**ker” on numerous occasions – both on and off screen. It has become something of a trademark for the Pulp Fiction star, and Samuel spoke about the reasons he loves it during an interview with the New York Post’s gossip column Page Six.
“It’s a kind of all-encompassing word that describes a lot of different feelings and a lot of different things,” he said. “It all depends on the inflection, the place in a particular sentence that allows someone to understand what you’re saying and how you feel about it.
“It’s very freeing in an interesting sort of way to relieve the pressure of the importance of something sometimes. You can elevate something with motherf**ker or you can deflate it with motherf**ker. The word works in so many wonderful and amazing ways.”
Another reason Samuel has such a bond to the word is because it helped him overcome stuttering when he was younger. And in that respect, the actor often drops the phrase when he speaks too fast these days.
“I still do (use it to overcome stuttering), as you’ve probably noticed when I talk too fast. It was the release word. It was in the pin in the bubble,” he smiled.
The Oscar nominee was also asked in the interview of his opinions about U.S. President Donald Trump.
Referring to seeing the POTUS on a golf course, Samuel said: “I met him at a tournament somewhere. He invited me to play at his place. I played with him at his place. I saw what kind of golfer he was. Golf’s a very moral game. You kind of police yourself out there, and he didn’t really police himself very well out there.
“Once he started to espouse his political opinion or his general opinion about the world, the state of the people who live in this particular country, based on that, not such a great person, in my opinion. But that’s my opinion.”
