A 17-year-old was arrested Saturday in connection with stealing a Ford Mustang from a North Hollywood dealership before he allegedly crashed into a nearby duplex, authorities said.
The crime occurred around 1:30 a.m. when the juvenile went to Sunrise Ford of North Hollywood at 5500 Lankershim Boulevard and stole a Ford Mustang, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Mike Lopez said.
Lopez, of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section, said the dealership was having a tent sale in its parking lot and the 17-year-old opened a tent and was able to snag the Mustang for a joyride.
When officers arrived, the teenager was pulling out of the parking lot and after a “five second” pursuit, he crashed into a nearby duplex, Lopez said.
A report from the scene said the duplex, at the southeast corner of Albers Street and Camellia Avenue, sustained minimal damage.
The teen, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening head injuries, Lopez noted.
He was arrested on suspicion of stealing a vehicle and is now at Juvenile Hall in Sylmar, according to Lopez.
